How does the emerging generation see culture in the city? These questions will be at the heart of this autumn’s Brno Cultural Forum, taking place on 11 November at the CO.LABS cultural centre. Culture Through Young Eyes
This autumn’s Brno Cultural Forum will focus on young people, arts students and the emerging generation of cultural and creative professionals. Brno is a major university city that welcomes hundreds of talented people every year. But how can their potential best be connected with the local cultural scene? And what can the city and cultural organisations do to ensure that young creators find the space they need to launch their professional careers here?
These are precisely the questions we will be exploring together. The autumn Forum will provide a space for students, cultural organisations, universities and other actors from the cultural and creative scene to meet. We want to bring together different experiences and perspectives and create opportunities for new collaborations, contacts and ideas.
When, where and how?
We will meet on 11 November 2026 at the CO.LABS cultural centre. This time, you can look forward to a full-day programme, with students themselves playing a significant role in its preparation.
Admission to the entire Forum is free, but advance registration is required due to the limited capacity of the venue.
The event will be happening both in Czech and English. Interpretation between the two languages will therefore be provided for your convenience.
What can you look forward to?
Brno Cultural Forum will open with two morning workshop sessions bringing together universities, students and cultural organisations. The workshops will offer an opportunity to meet people from Brno’s cultural and creative scene as well as representatives of the education sector. Participants will be able to make new contacts, learn more about professional opportunities and lay the foundations for future collaboration across universities and cultural organisations.
The programme will also include the traditional Culture Brno Presents: What’s New session, in which the Culture Department of the Brno City Municipality will introduce its current and upcoming projects and initiatives. You will find out what is being prepared in Brno’s cultural sector and what opportunities or changes may shape cultural life in the city in the near future.
This will be followed by the Open Forum – a space for your questions, suggestions, experiences and inspiration. Together, we will discuss what matters for the development of culture in Brno and how different actors can contribute to shaping its future direction.
Young People Are More Than Just an Audience
The afternoon programme will be dedicated primarily to students and young creators. They will have an opportunity to present their own work, original projects or ideas they are currently developing, while also connecting with potential collaborators and partners.
For visitors, the afternoon programme will offer a chance to discover the work of the emerging generation, encounter new talent and learn about projects that may help shape Brno’s cultural scene in the future.
The student presentations will be followed by a programme by Nová síť entitled Culture Without a Waiting Room: Young People Are More Than Just an Audience. It will explore what happens when young people are not simply an audience for whom cultural institutions create programmes, but are given the opportunity to influence, organise and co-create culture themselves.
This autumn’s Brno Cultural Forum will therefore be more than simply a meeting about culture. Above all, it will be an opportunity to listen to the younger generation, connect people and explore new ways of creating space in Brno for young creators and their ideas.
